The Cloud as a Platform for Emerging Technologies
Funny how something that was once brand-new and sparkly becomes something we take for granted and assume will always be there so fast after we get used to it. like Internet access anywhere, including on aircraft. Do you recall the days when visiting a coffee shop to access the internet while away from the office required a paid account? Today, however, we have virtually unlimited access to the internet. And because something new is approaching and has now taken our attention, we shrug our shoulders and forget exactly how fantastic it is. It’s just the way technology is. We adjust fast to change and eagerly await the next big breakthrough.
Even cloud computing has experienced it. It was the ground-breaking new technology that would revolutionise computing as we knew it when cloud computing first made headlines, and boy did it create waves! After a few years, cloud computing has become the boring old standard, but with a twist. The cloud has changed from being the leading edge of new technology to being the new technology itself. Without cloud computing as the enabler, emerging technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) and the internet of things (IoT) would not be feasible at scale. These new technologies are made viable by cloud computing because they necessitate massive amounts of data and lightning-fast processing speeds on demand.
